In the fall of 2001, Coach Dave Shumaker returned to his alma mater as a professor in the Biblical Studies & Greek departments. That same year, he also took over the women’s & men’s volleyball programs. In his five years coaching at BBC, his women’s team has continued their streak of fourteen consecutive NCCAA II Regional Championships and NCCAA II National Championship appearances.
Shumaker enjoys coaching because of the interaction with his student-athletes. Outside of athletics, he enjoyed playing with his two children, Danielle & Drew, and watching great films and professional football. He leads a small group at his local church, Parker Hill Community Church. Dave is married to Joanna (Pollock), also a BBC alumnus and assistant women’s volleyball coach.
Shumaker’s favorite verse is Romans 1:16-17, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
