Defenders, Spartans Split NEAC Double-header 17-7, 2-0

LaPlume, PA - Baptist Bible and D'Youville College split a North Eastern Athletic Conference baseball double-header Saturday.

The two games could not have been more opposite with the first game totaling 24 runs and 27 hits and the late match-up tallying only two runs with nine hits.

The Defenders got the first game win 17-7, jumping out to a 9-1 lead in the first inning.

Ken Barrows (Whitney Point, NY) got BBC on the board with a two run double to left center scoring Seth McDonald (Chesapeake, VA) and Zach Dawson (Batavia, NY) to take a 2-0 lead. Barrows would have 5 RBIs in the game.

McDonald and Dawson would cross the plate to finish the scoring in the inning. Seth would lead the team with four runs in the game. Zach scored three runs along with teammate Aaron Klosheim (Cooperstown, NY).

Matt Mowry went four innings to get the win for the Defenders. He improved to 3-2 on the season.
D'Youville would get production from Brandon Smith (Newfane, NY) and Nigel Spahr (Morristown, NY) both players batting in two runs.

However, the Spartans would not overcome the first inning success of the Defenders as they scored only seven throughout.

In the second game, Spahr took over on the mound and stumped Baptist Bible allowing only three hits and striking out 10 as the Spartans took the winning end of a 2-0 defensive battle.

Brandon Smith tallied the games only RBIs with two in the fifth inning scoring Jeffrey Wells (Basdell, NY) and Kevin Buffuam (Tupper Lake, NY). Wells and Buffuam singled to right field earlier in the inning.

Ken Barrows pitched six solid innings but the Defenders had little answer advancing only two runners into scoring position in the game.

With today's results, Baptist Bible moves to 4-11 overall and 1-3 in the NEAC. The Defenders will host PSU-Harrisburg College Wednesday at 2:00 pm.

D'Youville rests at 1-12 overall ad 1-5 in conference. They will face Keystone College tomorrow for a 12:00 pm double-header.
