Storm Sweeps Defenders in Season Finale

Clarks Summit, PA – Keuka College defeated Baptist Bible College 4-3 and 4-3 in their final NEAC doubleheader of the season.

The first game went into an extra inning before Keuka’s Ed Schoeneck (Syracuse, NY) drove in what would be the game winner on a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth.

The Storm grabbed their first run of the game in the second inning when Collin Mullins (Conklin, NY) homered to lead off the inning.

The Defenders responded by playing small ball in the bottom of the inning and three singles by Tom Krick (Jersey Shore, PA), Andrew Kidd (Williamsport, MD) and Jacob Walton (Meadville, PA) each drove in an RBI to make the score 3-1.

Keuka grabbed one in the third on a sacrifice fly by David Mendez (S. Huntinghton, NY) and then tied the game in the sixth when Mike Perrone (Valley Stream, NY) scored on a ground out to the right side. The Storm would then win it in the eighth.

Kyle Sherin (Walworth, NY) gets the win for the Storm and Brady Begeal (Northville, NY) grabs the save. Sherin improves to 2-1 on the season.

In the second game, Keuka got on the board early thanks to the speed of Dominick Dashnaw (Gouverneur, NY) who singled, stole second, advanced to third on a on a fielders choice then scored on a sacrifice fly.

Zach Dawson (Batavia, NY) got the Defenders on the board in the second inning when he scored from third on a one out single by Ken Kirby (Byesville, OH).

After adding two in the sixth the Storm scored what would prove to be the game winning run in the top of the seventh. Dan Schmidt (Auburn, NY) led off the inning with a double and scored two batters later on Ed Schoeneck’s single to left field.

Matt Mowry (Radnor, OH) made the game close for the Defenders after knocking in two runs on a two out double. However, the Storm closed the door to maintain the lead and the win.

Simon Mills (Boonville, NY) went the distance for the Storm and improves to 2-3 on an eight strikeout performance.

The Defenders finish their season at 11-18 overall and 7-11 in conference. The Storm finish 8-10 in conference but have one more game on their schedule at Rochester Institute of Technology at 2:00 pm Wednesday. They improve to 8-13 overall.
