Baptist Bible College Finishes Season of Firsts

In their NCAA III Women’s Volleyball Tournament debut Baptist Bible College came up short against Stevens Institute of Technology 0-3 (23-30, 18-30, 19-30). The Lady Defenders started off very strong, opening up a seven point lead (14-7) in game one, but Stevens Ducks came back to win and sweep the Defenders in three straight. Amy Pausley led the Defenders with twelve kills in the match followed by Emily Harlan with six. Jenette Cline led the way in assists for Baptist Bible with 25. Micki Blitz matched Cline’s assist mark with 25 of her own for the Ducks, while Summer Hamilton and Dawn Herring had twenty kills each.

This was a year of firsts that will be long remembered by the Defenders. Baptist Bible accepted the first ever NCAA III automatic qualifying bid from the North Eastern Athletic Conference and their first ever trip to the national tournament as a school. The Lady Defenders fought hard to the end but came up short on a second round advance. In the future they can claim veteran status in the tournament and look forward to making the trip again. The Defenders finish the season at 23-14 and the Ducks improve to 32-5 and move on to the second round to play SUNY Cortland Friday at 7:00 pm.
