Clarks Summit, PA- Using their high-powered, fast-paced offense, the Cyclones of Centenary College ran by the Lady Defenders of Baptist Bible College 108-59 in today's Colonial States Athletic Conference game. The Cyclones are now 9-4 in conference play and jockeying for a better playoff position down the stretch.
The Lady Defenders jumped out to the early lead holding a 12-7 advantage. But the Cyclones used a high pressured defense an aggressive offense to go on a 21-2 run and double up Baptist Bible 28-14. Centenary forced the Lady Defenders into 23 first half turnovers as they controlled the tempo of the remainder of the half. The Cyclones went into the locker room with a 52-28 advantage.
The second half would be a continuation of the first period with Centenary in control as they again scored over 50 points in the half by shooting 51 percent including 5 of 12 from behind the arc. The Cyclones all took advantage at the free throw line by knocking down 20 of 25 while the Lady Defender hit only 20 of 33. Centenary's pressure also forced Baptist Bible to shot just 32 percent for the game and only 1 of 5 from three point range.
Freshman Kelly Bargfeldt (Lafayette, IN) provided Baptist Bible with a spark off the bench by scoring 13 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and handing out 2 assists. Marlie Kniefel (Kouts, IN) added 14 points, and Joy DeLeonardis (Wellsboro, PA) contributed 11 points and 8 rebounds. In 21 minutes of play, Jessica White (Lakeland, FL) grabbed 8 boards.
The Cyclones high powered attack was led by Kristen Camuso with 25 points. Four other Centenary players scored in double digits as Brittany Taylor and Leah Murphy scored 15 and 14 points respectively. Nikki VanTassel and Hannah Ally added 13 and 11 points. Marissa DiStasico snatched a team high 7 rebounds while Jen Vasta dished out a game high 4 assists.
The Lady Defenders (4-15, 2-10) will be action again on Tuesday as they travel to CSAC and NCCAA East Region opponent Philadelphia Biblical University. The game time will be at 6:00 pm.
