Aston, PA- The Defenders' second half comeback was not enough as the Knights of Neumann University top Baptist Bible 84-73 in tonight's Colonial States Athletic Conference game.
With just under nine minutes remaining in the first half, Baptist Bible held a 20-17 lead over the Knights by knocking down 5 threes in the first period. But Neumann's offense was energized for the last nine minutes as they went on a 25-3 run to end the half. The Defenders were held to only 8 made shots while Neumann hit 18.
The Defenders outscored the Knights 50-42 in a second half shootout with Baptist Bible shooting 56 percent in the period. They also hit 9 of 16 three pointers for the game.
Shooting 9 of13 and making 6 of 8 threes, Tommy Waszaj (East Brunswick, NJ) led the Defenders with 24 points. Nathan Greve (Arcanum, OH) contributed 19 points and 4 rebounds while Seth Bernard (Hilliard, OH) added 17 points, 5 boards, and 5 assists.
The Knights had 5 players in double figures, led by Marquise Boggs with 18 points. Na'Sheed Linton and Mike Walukiewicz added 15 and 12 points respectively. Ty Robinson and John Lewis each scored 10 points. Sean Armstrong grabbed a game high 11 rebounds. Marquise Boggs and Na'Sheed Linton handed out 7 and 6 assists for the game.
The Defenders (2-16) will host CSAC opponent Centenary College on Saturday at 3:00 pm. Immediately following the game Coach Mike Show and the Defenders will have a basketball clinic for students in attendance.
