Cabrini Ends Lady Defenders Season


Radnor, PA- Baptist Bible College's women's volleyball team lost to the Cavaliers of Cabrini College 3 to 1 in tonight's Colonial States Athletic Conference semifinal match. The Lady Defenders (14-13) finish the year with a winning record.

Jumping out to quick starts was the key in tonight's match as Cabrini lead 5-0 in the first set. They would stretch their lead to 14-7 before the Lady Defenders would close the gap to 18-15. But in the end the Cavaliers were too much as the won 25-16. The second set was again won by Cabrini as they got off to a 14-4 start before taking the set at 25-10. Baptist Bible would give everything they had in the next set in order to extend the match. This time the Lady Defenders had the early 8-3 lead. They would maintain and then stretch the lead to 20-13 before taking the set 25-18. Set four would be the best as both teams fought hard to keep every ball alive. The set was tied multiple times before Baptist Bible would be down 21-19. Cabrini proved why they were the best team in the conference as they finished the set with a 4-0 run to win the set 25-19 and match 3-1.

Leading the charge for the Lady Defenders was Marlie Kneifel with double-double notching a game high 17 kills and 14 digs. Jessica White would tack on 8 kills while Emily Gordon added 5 kills plus 13 digs. Kelly Bargfeldt jumped in with a team high 19 digs with Jaycee Shirk adding 11. Katelin Broughton served 25 assists along with 12 digs in the losing effort.

Cabrini was lead by Megan Ryan with 14 kills and 13 digs. Also contributing was Traci Beltz and Stephanie Recklau with 8 and 7 kills. Courtney Abel notched a game high 22 digs while Lizzie Williams added 13 more to go with her 32 assists.
