Defenders Split In Trimatch

Clarks Summit, PA- Baptist Bible goes the distance and further to win the first match of the day against Lycoming College. In a back and forth battle the Defenders needed all five games plus some extra points to beat Lycoming 3 to 2. Neither team would give as the Defenders got off to a good start winning the first game 25 to 20. Lycoming hung in there and won the second game 25 to 19 to even the score. Again Baptist Bible would take the next game by a score of 25 to 22. Not giving up, the Warriors won the fourth game 25 to 23 to force a deciding fifth game. The fifth game summed up the match as each team stood its ground and gave it all they had. The Defenders had just a little bit more as they edged the Warriors 20 to 18 to take the game and match.

Leading the way for the Defenders was Marlie Kneifel with 16 kills, 26 digs and 3 aces. Brittany Floyd and Jessica White helped the Defenders cause with 12 and 10 kills respectively, while Kelly Bargfeldt supported with 21 digs.

Emily Abel led the match with 43 digs for the Warriors. Kelly Rose also contributed 15 kills in the losing effort.

In the second game the Defenders could not put it together as they lost 3 to 0 to Susquehanna University. The Crusaders proved to be too much for Baptist Bible in the second and final match of the day for both teams. In each game the Defenders got behind early and could not catch up. The Crusaders cruised to two victories one over Lycoming College 25 to 20, 25 to 15, and 25 to 16 and the other passed Baptist Bible by scores of 25 to 14, 25 to 11 and 25 to 14.

Up next for the 3-9 Defenders is a NCCAA match at Lancaster Bible College next Saturday.
