Clarks Summit, PA - Coach Don Sintic announced his resignation as coach of Baptist Bible's baseball program this past week. Coach Sintic stated that he and his wife Jane sense that God is leading them to new opportunities. He looks forward to spending some precious time with children and grandchildren in the future.
Sintic has led the program since the 2004-2005 season when baseball returned to BBC under his direction after a 20+ year absence. He conducted an intramural season the year prior to engage the interest of students for the launch. During these past six years then, Coach Sintic has had the opportunity to mentor an estimated 100+ players.
In speaking about the announcement, BBC Director of Athletics Mike Show said; "Don was foundational in bringing baseball back to Defender Athletics and we thank him for his service to our institution. He served the players with his heart."
Coach Sintic will miss several aspects of coaching including revving up for each season in the spring. However, he recognizes some aspects are even more difficult to leave behind. "Far and away I will miss building relationships with the guys," Sintic remarks, "I was hopefully able to impact their lives in a positive manner." After pausing he continues; "We always emphasized the ministry platform that athletics provides. Whether it was visiting hotels or restaurants on the road, players were reminded that everything was a ministry opportunity."
In the last six years there have been many memorable moments but Don remembers that starting off the program with a double-header win was a special way to begin in '05. In addition, seventeen different players have accepted over 20 regional and conference honors in the last five seasons. These highlight just a few of the on field accomplishments over the years.
Coach Sintic finishes his run with a 38-101 record overall at the helm of Defender Baseball. As far as the future, it looks like it will not take long to discover the new opportunities that the Lord has in store for Don and Jane. They have a missions trip scheduled for later this year.
