BBC Swept by Moravian in Season Opener

Bethlehem, PA - Moravian College handed Baptist Bible two losses on their opening day Tuesday in women's softball. The #11, nationally ranked, Greyhounds halted the Lady Defenders 9-0 and 13-0; holding BBC to just three hits in the first game and then tossing a no-hitter in the second game for their eighth win of the season.

In game one, Brittney Dewalt (Montgomery, PA), Renee Korb (Pottstown, PA) and Katie Durrwachter (Huntington, IN) all went 1 for 3 at the plate to get their first hits of the season. However, that was the extent of the offense for BBC on the afternoon.

Moravian's Sheri Bieniek's two run homer in the first would be enough for the win in the early outing, but the Greyhounds added one more run in the third and two in the fourth through sixth innings for the win.

In the second game, Elizabeth Python and Jennifer Gonzalez teamed up for a five inning no hitter, fanning four and not allowing a runner throughout as Moravian rallied with a five run second to help them sweep and improve to 8-4 on the season.

It was the second double-header in as many years between the two teams as the Lady Defenders also fell to the Greyhounds in their third and fourth games in 2008. Moravian now holds a 4-0 career record over BBC.

Baptist Bible starts their season at 0-2 with Tuesday's action. They will enter into Colonial States Athletic Conference play at Rosemont College Saturday before a six game stretch at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic next week.
