The roof is one of the first things that can go bad in a home. Ask the seller how old the roof is, and if it’s been under some type of repair or renovation before. You can also have a professional check for rust, holes, leaks, or cracked tiles.
Rugs and Cover-Ups
If you see a rug at an odd location inside the home, then chances are the seller is hiding something. Lift every rug you see (all the movable ones, at least) and look for signs of damage.
When doing a visit to the place, make sure to run the water in every sink including the ones in the kitchen and bathroom. Flush the toilets, too, to see if it’s working and nothing is clogged. Toilets and sinks that clog up are signs of a bad water pressure, which you should mention to the seller.
You can’t always see signs of flooding, but at least ask the seller about this. Ask if they have ever experienced being flooded. Ask about how bad it got, and if they always seem to experience this type of problem. You may want to steer clear of homes that easily get caught up in floods, a this can only cause you multiple problems.
Look for electrical wirings and see if nothing is burnt or damaged. If you cannot have access to this, at least look for different switches and outlets and see if everything is working perfectly fine. Electrical wiring repairs can be expensive, so make sure to check on this.
It’s always better to be safe than sorry, besides, houses can be really expensive. Be wise and say no if you have to!
